Like any good coach, I test my own advice.
Running a daily journal has become the latest tool for navigating my life. And this new daily habit is starting to pay off.
I started the practice of writing my journal when I was at Te Moata Retreat in March. Now it permeates all parts of my life, so much so that before I even get out of bed in the morning, I write down my intentions for the day.
It acts as a reminder to be purposeful about on the day ahead; what I’d like to achieve, what I need to let go, what I’m grateful for and how I want to be. Coloured pens, stickers and images bring it all to life.
The best part is that all this activity is that it’s got me to a new situation – literally!
My new office – the Wellinton BizDojo
Right now I am sitting in a large, light, airy open space; dub music in the background as one of the 100+ people sitting or standing at their desks, talking to screens or huddled together in one of the many meeting pods. I’m dying to know what they’re all doing and I’m sure I’ll find out over time.
As it says on the BizDojo website, this is a “coworking and collaboration network whose mission is to unleash people’s potential”. Awesome – we can all do with more of that!
It’s time to get out of my own way
Working from home has had its advantages for managing the recovery and maintenance of my mental health. But it’s been a long three years but now it’s time to test run a new strategy.
If you’re wondering where I’m at with my projects, here’s an update.
First, the Heart Strategy.
The Heart Strategy, a collaboration between Keong and myself, is a visioning workshop that allows people to define their purpose and then benefit from a set of tools to craft a pathway to get there.
To date we have had some amazing feedback on the pilot workshop we ran in March. One attendee told us that it created change on a cellular level, so subtle and powerful that she didn’t realise its effect until a few weeks later, once she reflected upon two major changes she had made in her life.
I know from my own experience that once I’ve been through the visioning experience, decision-making takes on a life of its own. The hard work of knowing what I want is already done. From then on it’s about having faith, making small decisions and putting thoughts into action.
(The process is also great for teams and small enterprises which mean we’ve also been pitching the concept to decision-makers with great success. When working with a small team, individual heart strategies are integrated to create the basis for an authentic team culture.)
Watch this space for our next public workshop.
Just to remind you, I work with people wanting to make a meaningful career transition, who are engaged in self-employment or small business; or who would like support in the recovery from burnout, depression or anxiety.
My coaching practice brings together the background and experienced gained from life, self-employment, small business and as a mental health survivor. My goal is to help others understand how amazing they are already. I know I’ve got a lot to give and can’t wait to help more people.
So if you are ready for a change but not sure how to navigate the obstacles that are getting in your way, then I’m the coach for you.
If you are anything like me, making progress in life and business is faster when a third party checks in on the things holding me back.
It’s then that I find out that they are usually imaginary barriers. Then the solution is to make just one decision, any decision. As soon as I do, the impasse is broken – until the next time.
I have openings for two clients in May. Please contact me to talk about how I can help.
